Safe Families for Children (SFFC) is a national family preservation movement committed to keeping children safe and families together. We desire to prevent child abuse and decrease the number of children unnecessarily entering the foster care system. SFFC seeks to reframe how families are served and supported when facing challenging and unmanageable circumstances. The goal is to provide a safe alternative for parents and help build strong, resilient families in the communities.
What We Do
Every year, several million children in the U.S. find themselves living in a home overwhelmed by a crisis. Poverty, loss of job or a home can often result in children being neglected or worse. Compound those issues with many families living in isolation with no community to fall back on or stand in the gap.
This is where we come in. Safe Families provide a safe home for children and a supportive community for parents while they get back on their feet. Parents are provided with the space and support they need to address the issues impacting their ability to provide the best environment for their children. This network of relationships keep children from entering the foster care system, and ultimately, helps keeps families together.
- Prevent child maltreatment
- Deflect at-risk families from entering into the child welfare system
- Stabilizing and strengthening families in crisis.
We work to utilize and equip churches to recruit host families who will serve as alternatives to foster care by opening their home to children in need and developing a mentoring relationship to the parents.
Safe Families volunteers are…
Host Families: Screened and approved by Safe Families, Host Families take in children for short periods of time.
Family Friends: They provide support to Families in Need (e.g., mentoring and transportation) and Host Families (e.g., babysitting and providing meals).
Resource Friends: They provide various types of goods and services to Families in Need to help parents get back on their feet.
Family Coaches: They are trained to provide resources and casework-like services to Families in Crisis. They also ensure that kids are well cared for in Host Family homes.
Safe Families Churches: These are spiritual communities that support Safe Families as a ministry of their church. There are three church levels: Participating Church, Lead Church, and Community Lead Church.Apply Today
