What is TCYFS Specialized Foster Care?
TCYFS Specialized Foster Care is a community-based program for children and youth, whose special needs and challenges can best be met in a professional, well-trained foster home. Services are delivered through a Child and Family Planning Team, which is made up of the child or youth, foster parents, child’s family, TFC staff, and agency and community representatives. TFC team members work together in full partnership to allow children to benefit from the richness and normalizing influence of a home environment and community-based setting while receiving intensive treatment and clinical services. Program supports include family therapy, development of individual resources, intensive foster parent training, small caseload size, respite care, and twenty-four hour crisis intervention and staff accessibility.
Who is Served?
TCYFS Specialized Foster Care serves children and youth, ages 11-17 who have been identified as needing treatment for emotional and behavioral challenges. They may be ready to step-down from an intensive residential environment and need a transitional placement in the community before returning home or to their permanent placement, or they may need clinical treatment in a less structured home environment of specialized foster care. We serve children primarily from Georgia but do accept referrals from other states. TCYFS Specialized Foster Care recognizes the importance of family involvement for children and youth placed in our foster homes to succeed. We consider families a viable component of the child and family treatment team and work closely with families when possible to assure their participation in planning and serving their children.
