Macon’s Georgia Industrial Children’s Home
Announces Operations Have Been Combined
With Twin Cedars Youth Services, Inc.
Following a three month management agreement, The Georgia Industrial Children’s Home has announced plans to merge with West Georgia- based Twin Cedars Youth Services, Inc.
With the merger set to become official in the coming weeks, Twin Cedars Executive Director Mike Angstadt shared, “We are eager to partner together to help bring a brighter tomorrow to the children of the Macon community as we have for thousands of children and families in the West Georgia region.” The new partnership has proven that Twin Cedars and the GICH can combine individual strengths and streamline administrative duties that will allow for the expansion of services. Angstadt furthered, “This is strictly a merger of programs and services.” The GICH will maintain ownership of its 172-acre Mumford Road campus and current financial assets, and the Board of Trustees will also remain as the governing body for the Macon-based youth services provider. In addition to specialized residential programming and specialized foster care, Twin Cedars’ continuum of care also includes Second Chance Homes for teen mothers and their babies, Community Mental Health Centers, Child Advocacy Centers, Youth Leadership Programs, Pregnancy and Child Abuse Prevention Programs, Parenting Programs, Summer Camps, Ropes and Teambuilding, and Education Services.
While the foresight of Reverend William E. Mumford prompted the formation of the Georgia Industrial Children’s Home in Macon, across the state the Ladies Educational and Benevolent Society spearheaded the creation of Columbus’ Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home. Originally established as orphanages, the campuses are now among Georgia’s most reputable and well-known child serving agencies. With a history of providing sanctuary to children dating back to the 1800’s, The Georgia Industrial Children’s Home and Twin Cedars Youth Services have now evolved as frontrunners in the provision of residential services for abused and neglected children, as well as specialized foster care services.
